Stash Stewardship and Giveaway

 Simplify Sunday

In the interest of my family's sanity, I'm working on fitting The Stash into a couple dressers and a few boxes (instead of spread out on all 3 floors--that's another post). I read somewhere that we should only have 6 months worth of fabric. I don't know how to measure that, but I do know that I would like to wrap up all my WIPS in the next 6 months. And that I'm trying not to start something new unless I have finished a WIP.

In a wonderful little AHA moment, I realized I could give away sets of fabric for someone else to use (!!!). Someday soon I hope to give away large sets from The Stash, but for now, I'm having fun giving away bits and pieces.

So here's the deal: Even though I love The Stash, I want to sew more and dig less, AND I want all this perfectly good fabric to be used. It has something to do with stewardship.

If you think you could use the pink fabrics above (or know someone who would), enter this giveaway by Tuesday, March 2, 10:00 pm. Leave a comment sharing one way you care for your stash.

I know, the photo color isn't perfect, and all the fabrics do not go with each other--although they all go with at least 2 of the other pieces. But these pinks are so sweet. All together, someone will receive at least 1 1/2 yards of fabric (the first 5 are fat quarters). Good luck! The winner will be announced Wednesday, March 3, 8 am. Giveaway now closed.

Gratitudes
  • Stash abundance soon to be stash reasonable-ness
  • Hubby sweetness--he really does put me first, or at least lets me go first.
  • Hot coffee first thing in the morning. I LOVE that.

I have a bunch of pink I spy squares to put in a little girls lap quilt. I would use some of these pinks for borders and some for piecing on the back.

Oooh, I see a baby girls cot blanket right there! Love the spots especially. Count me in! :)

Very generous of you to give away some of The Stash! The pinks are very pretty. I'm sure they would make a fabulous baby quilt for Project Linus.

Pink is my absolute favorite color! And I think this is a fantastic idea. I go through my stash once every couple of weeks. I restack, reorganize the scraps and try to match up projects in my head with the fabrics I already have. I would love to win this giveaway, I know just what to do with those pink polka dots!

The main way I care for my stash is by looking at it so it knows it is loved.

I try to store it in visible places so that it can tell me what it wants to be!!! Love pink!

Hi Kolleen -- This would be the perfect addition to a baby quilt I'm making for my husband's niece. :-D
I like to keep my fabrics arranged by color (1/2 yard or more) or by size (FQ; strips; 3, 2-1/2, 1-1/2, 1", scraps). This helps keep me from buying something that I already have. I keep nearly everything in a variety of translucent plastic containers, so I can see what's inside, but light can't damage them. Thanks!!

I like to keep my fabric sorted by color and size. Most of it is on shelves and I have the scraps in plastic containers.

Thanks for the opportunity to win!! :)

How would we ever measure six months worth of fabric? I know there have been periods of my life when I've barely sewn anything and others when I've used every scrap I could get my hands on.

You asked us to share one way we care for our fabric. I talk to mine every day. Really. Hey, it helps plants grow so I thought it couldn't hurt!

Sometime I will share my great de-stashing event. Was fun and made a lot of people happy.
