DQS10 Received!!, a photo by QuiltyBee on Flickr.Look at the fabulous and beautiful and simply wonderful quilt I received from Elisa for DQS10. The details, created with applique and embroidery, are so thoughtful and interesting. I just love the colors and all the texture. And see that 3D flower?!
To add icing to an already delicious cake, Elisa sent 2 fantastic orange FQ--I am saving them for QuiltyBeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16219117243431235489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1259555831488964554.post-11712404844672566472011-03-25T08:50:00.002-05:002011-03-25T08:52:00.624-05:00STUD Sneak Peek
Sneak Peek, a photo by QuiltyBee on Flickr.Sorry for the lousy pic--it's snowing outside!
Anyhow, my swap partner says she likes half square triangles--so I'm combining these with an idea I've always wanted to try. Look how small! I don't think they will ALL be this tiny--had to finger press these babies first, and then no steam on the iron.

Trying out Malka Dubrosky's pattern for
with all purples and grays. The big version will be my son's graduation quilt. I do like the way these go together. . .I'd thought about taking the berry color out, but DS likes it, so it stays. Tried quilting it with all gray, maybe going to a charcoal and then quilted a little scrap size with purple--awesome, so it will be quilted in purple.

Looky, looky, looky! I received the January/February Swap 'til You Drop (STUD) mini from sunflowerquilts today--a love touch of spring for me to enjoy on a truly dreary day. Plus, a bright and orange-y charm pack and a little notebook.
Check out her quilting--beautiful stitches in a nice green thread. Fantastic binding as well.

This pic is pretty mediocre, but I love this little quilt I sent to Sunflowerquilts. Can you see they're sunflowers?
I took a cue from Malka Dubrosky's Fresh Quilting with a kind of improv log cabin block. My partner and I agreed to use only from our stash, since we're both in StashPact11. Actually, this mini will be finished by the end of the day and in the mail on Thursday. I really want to keep it for myself. Yellow & gray are my current faves! Should be able to post a finished pic by Monday.

Valentine coasters for someone special = a small dent in the yarn stash. Get this great flower coaster pattern from Laura's Left Hook. I did add one more center spiral and take away a couple stitches in each petal--my tension might be a bit tight for all her stitches. Lovely either way.

Turns out I have a stash of books & magazines, as well as fabric, yarn and beads. So part of my February strategy (read: stewardship of the stuff) is to assign some of my fabric sets to the great patterns in my books. Really, it's not as if I want to get ride of all my stuff--just use it. Just let it fulfill its purpose.
This month, I think I'll focus on Fresh Quilting by MalkaQuiltyBeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16219117243431235489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1259555831488964554.post-23917618778512524522011-01-28T07:00:00.002-06:002011-01-28T07:00:02.134-06:00State of the Stash
Another Slice of Stash
So I've been digging through the stash and thinking about how to shrink it. My fabric and yarn and beads need to fit in a certain space, and that's it. To help me figure this out, let's look at the current state of the stash:
+ On the Plus Side +Much of my fabric was purchased for specific projects--mostly quilts. So most of it coordinates.

Slice of Stash
Now I hate to make resolutions. I'm not even that good with goals--oh, I can set them, I just don't follow through. So I hesitate to go public with my plan to reduce my stash. But the fact of the matter is I have lots of stuff, and it's getting in my way. So here's the deal for 2011:
Much of my stash was purchased with a specific project in mind (at least I don't impulse buy "QuiltyBeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16219117243431235489noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1259555831488964554.post-68128589465943564412011-01-17T20:39:00.000-06:002011-01-17T20:39:28.886-06:00Year End Report2010
I'm a little surprised I could come up with 20 items--most of these are for swaps. Now, I certainly love swaps, but not having much else to show for 2010 might explain the size of my stash. Stay tuned for the 2011 Stash Buster strategy.
Hope 2011 is starting out well for everyone. I am deep in reflection (and year-end reports at work). Recently I traveled across the country to Spokane, Washington to visit my 93 year-old grandmother. She is doing pretty well, all things considered. Even though I have lived in Iowa for over 20 years, I miss being able to see her regularly.
I am so thankful that she passed on to me:

How easily we can forget how precious life is! So long as we can remember, we've just been here, being alive. Unlike other things for which we have a comparison--black to white, day to night, good to bad--we are so immersed in life that we can see it only in the context of itself. We don't see life as compared to anything, to not-being, for example, to never having been born. Life QuiltyBeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16219117243431235489noreply@blogger.com0
